What strikes me is that the modern socialist wants the abolition of Tory man with a natural sense of human dignity, ironic detachment and intelligence as that very presence is anathema to the left. There is something mutually exclusive going on as in the battle for the framing of the argument. The attempt is to “disallow” a certain kind of consciousness from the world as, if it exists, its spontaneous and unwilled but inevitable ability to see the shortcomings of the leftist position is a threat. This form of intelligence must be demonised and then erased as an intellectual convenience.
