Cameron versus Johnson

Cameron was a marketing and branding executive who saw branding as a way to office. Hence the absurd overcompensation of gay marriage to get rid of the odour of Theresa May’s “nasty party” invention. There was a vacuum where his conservatism should have been. I think Boris will surprise with how constitutionally, instinctively and naturally conservative he is. And, yes, aligning himself fully with the people in the north and the Midlands who can give him a second term - what’s not to like?

My sense about Boris is that he’s vastly under-estimated because he’s a strange bird. Awkward and ridiculed while waddling around on the ground but like Baudelaire’s albatross, putting all the others in the shade once aloft. Afraid I’m a hopeless fanboy. I mean look at the achievements so far. Two terms as Tory mayor in Labour London. Wins the referendum against all the odds. Prises open the padlocked Withdrawal agreement, jettisons the hated backstop. Busts open the doors of the Prison Parliament. Woos the working and Workington Man and wins an 80 seat majority....force of nature. Moral (in spite of being characterised as the diametric opposite by the MSM) magnanimous, generous and not a trace of spite under the most intense provocation and being ritually and routinely patronised, demeaned and criminalised by moral pygmies.....
