Just Add Water

Goodness is now prescribed. All you have to do is follow the instructions.......but if you sin against the prescribed goodness or fail to exhibit the right ‘behaviours’ then, morally, you are cast into outer darkness as a non-person, a sub-human untermensch. You then dwell in the penumbra at the edge of town far from those citizens who dwell in the light at the centre, jealously guarding their privilege and their status. Such banishment is terminal and so it is much feared. You are unfit for society and effectively cease to exist as an acceptable moral entity. This is what the legacy of the Enlightenment has become in modern times.
